International Students
A prospective student who is not a citizen of the United States should apply for admission at least six months prior to the desired date and submit all required materials three months prior registration. Credentials that must be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office are official college transcript(s) with the degree posted; detailed statement of financial status showing that adequate financial resources are ensured; satisfactory test scores for TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) if the native tongue is not English; and results of the GRE (Graduate Record Examination), MAT (Miller Analogy Test) or GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test). Such students transferring from another higher education institution of the U.S. must transfer admission requirements and submit acceptable TOEFL and GRE, MAT, or GMAT scores. Minimum acceptable scores are TOEFL - 525, GRE - 850 (verbal and quantitative scores) MAT - 33, GMAT - 450. The TOEFL is waived as an admissions requirement for foreign students who hold the baccalaureate or equivalent degree from a regionally accredited United States university or a university in an English speaking country such as England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, etc. where the language of the university was also English. Upon arrival, new students must take the American English Group assessment test battery regardless of their TOEFL score. The tests will be used to determine if they are adequately prepared for the rigors of academic study. Students with deficiencies as noted by the testing program will be required to take remedial courses.
For students completing the three-year baccalaureate degree, the Troy program would mandate at least 30 semester hours of undergraduate course work to be completed with an average grade point average of 2.5. All courses would be selected by the student's graduate program advisor and would be directly related to the intended graduate program. Bridge program students would not be allowed to repeat courses that they had taken at the undergraduate level in their home country. This course work would have to be completed prior to entry into the graduate program at Troy.
These are minimum requirements; schools or departments may set higher standards for specific degree programs. (See the specific programs for information.) For additional information, write to the Graduate Admissions Office.
Non U.S. Citizens (and immediate family members) who are members of allied military forces or civilian agencies assigned to U.S. military installations are exempt from providing financial statements or TOEFL scores provided their proficiency in English is certified in writing by an appropriate U.S. military official.
Prospective students must submit an institutionally translated transcript in English. Applicants who cannot obtain an institutionally translated transcript may obtain a translation utilizing the services of an approved credential evaluating service.
Institutionally translated transcripts will be evaluated by Troy using standard accreditation practices and guidelines. If the foreign school does not appear in any of these sources or if the transcript does not provide the information necessary to determine admission status based on standard criteria, the applicant will be required to utilize the credential evaluation service. Whenever possible, applicants transferring credit should submit a copy of the school catalog.
Policy Statement: Troy University is an equal opportunity institution and therefore does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, or handicap in admission or access to its programs.
