Accepting a Job Offer
If you elect to accept an offer of employment, make sure you understand all the details of the offer. It is highly advisable to get the offer in writing before taking any subsequent actions. Be certain:
• The salary offer is competitive for your location and experience. See salary links for assistance.
• The nature of the assignment agrees with your understanding of the position.
• The starting date is clearly stated and mutually agreeable.
• The opportunity offers future growth potential.
If the job offer meets these criteria and other expectations you have for the position, accept the offer in the manner requested in the offer letter and by any deadline that may be specified. Once you have accepted the offer of employment, write a letter rejecting other offers you may have received. Be tactful in declining these offers. You may wish to be considered for future employment with one of these employers.
If you need an extension of time to consider more than one offer, be up-front with the employer and ask for an extension. Most employers will give you a few more days (not weeks) if you really need it.
